Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator who works with NBC News in Washington D.C. She is also a television anchor. She graduated with an undergraduate degree in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing as a child in New York City. Mitchell started as a radio and TV reporter in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. In 1976 she was a part of the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV in Washington DC (then WTOP). She was promoted to Washington general correspondent to NBC News two years later. She started covering the White House in 1981 and was named chief correspondent for the congressional office by 1988. She was made Chief White House correspondent in 1992. and Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell appeared as both the host and panelist for the TV news show Meet the Press. Mitchell joined the panel in 1988's presidential debates in which George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the spouse of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005, Mitchell was awarded the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and, in 2004, in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) presented Mitchell by awarding her the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her work in the defense and protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell first covered the White House for NBC News from 1981-1988 during both of the terms of President Ronald Reagan. She covered a wide range of noteworthy stories including arm control, budget tax reform, and the Iran-contra scandal. Mitchell was frequently with the President Reagan to meetings together with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world leaders.
